OCFF 2008 CROWNE PLAZA HOTEL OTTAWA
This was my 2nd year at
OCFF, which for those of you who don't know if a folk festival
conference attended by hundreds of musicians and festival promoters ...
there are "official" showcases during the day and evening with panels
and all sorts of stuff, but the really interesting stuff happens at the
after hours showcases in the hotel. They have 2 entire floors
reserved for the conference which become a musician free-for-all with
people running around playing in the hallways, jamming in the stairwell
... it's nuts. Last year which was my 1st time, I actually found
it almost physically overwhelming ... music and musicians wherever you
turn people drinking and carrying on every step of the way ... music
coming from every room, in every imaginable style. I eventually
went to bed around 5am, but captured some of the nuttiness on video for
your viewing pleasure. A classic moment was also captured in a
photo immediately below: it's my friend Caroline Brooks (Good
Lovelies) singing along to Peter Katz's late night set while holding
up some guy's head so that he would stop snoring ... the woman is a
genius ...
